Manager Spotlight
Tom Stevens
In Tom's Maintenance Department, big things are happening. With the new addition to our building, maintenance is getting a total of 12 new bays to perform vehicle maintenance. Since we just purchased eight new trucks, this is fabulous news! With the new EPA requirements that have been made in the past three years, new ways to diagnose and test for problems have come as well. In the past, each truck had a total of five computers, Anti-lock Brake System, Transmission, Engine, Electrical System, and Body (Hopper). Now, there is a sixth computer called the Exhaust After Treatment System (EATS). The new computer requires approximately six months of studying and attending meetings and seminars to fully learn and understand all functions it can perform. When a vehicle is experiencing maintenance problems, this new computer shoots out the truck's diagnostic codes into an online system. Once online, the results are listed in a sequential order from the most likely problem to the least likely problem. After performing all necessary checks, it will inform you if the maintenance issue has been solved. Interestingly enough, by uploading the information online, all maintenance performed on a specific vehicle is denoted by the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This tracking system allows a vehicle's life maintenance to be tracked. Down the road, this can help with reoccurring problems for specific makes and models. Very efficient! Congratulations Maintenance on your 12 new bays and vehicles. Have fun learning the new computer system maintenance!
